Organised by the Thorpe Bay Rotary Club, the 2017 Raft Race was an enormous success, attended by thousands of cheering spectators and raising vital funds for local charities, including the RNLI station.
This year, this hugely popular event will be staged again at Thorpe Esplanade – from 10am on Sunday 29th July – proudly sponsored by Rickard Luckin and local law firm BTMK. Both firms enjoy a strong community presence, and are regular supporters (not to mention enthusiastic participants!) in charitable events throughout Essex.
A must for budding Bear Grylls types, if you’ve ever wanted to build and race your very own raft, now’s your chance. At the 2018 Raft Race, up to fifty sponsored rafts will race along the coast towards Southend, and for those in a competitive mood, prizes will be awarded not only to the race winner, but for a selection of fun categories including ‘Most Attractive Raft’, ‘Best Dressed Crew’ and many more.
Alongside sponsorship of the event, Rickard Luckin and BTMK are supporting the race by building and entering a raft from each firm. To help spur the teams on, sponsorship donations would be extremely welcome, and supporters can easily contribute to the team’s chosen charity by visiting their dedicated Just Giving page.
A fantastic and fun-filled family event, spectators can attend the Raft Race free of charge, while the cost of each raft entry is £200 (just £25 per person for a maximum crew of eight).
As the rafters work hard on winning the race, spectators can relax and enjoy entertainment, hot drinks and delicious refreshments served on the green opposite the beach at Thorpe Esplanade. Toilets, parking and disabled access will all be available, along with a dedicated viewing area to cheer on your favourite raft!
