As a well-known and active member of Chelmsford’s business community, Ian has established many working partnerships with other professionals.
Ian would like to have been a rock guitarist or a travel writer but chose accountancy for the exciting life it offered (turned out to be the right call!). He believes his role as a Director is to be a good communicator with clients, to listen and offer advice, as well as be a facilitator – to make sure clients have access to the resources and expertise needed help develop their business.
Nicknamed The Counsellor, Ian aspires to help clients resolve issues and achieve their aims and gets fulfilment from having made an impact on their lives.
Outside of work Ian enjoys walking holidays in UK and Europe, travelling, real ale, playing badminton, going to the gym and watching football.
“Ian is an excellent local business contact, he has great relationships across The Essex Business landscape through his delivery of a first class service. He has helped a number of clients and I appreciate his help and assistance.”
“One of Ian’s clients once told me that when he started working with Ian ‘he realised the difference between an accountant and a bean counter’. Ian is practical, looks for solutions and takes a real interest in his clients business. This is why he is so highly regarded by his clients, and the wider business community.”
“Ian’s support and advice for my business provided a valuable platform that allowed us to grow profitably and with confidence. We grew organically and strengthened our management team with his input into our board meetings. As our performance improved we also acquired another business and his advice and support in dealing with our bank and the sellers helped secure the deal. We looked at other opportunities where it was right to walk away. His support for my business continued until we were acquired in 2011. Ian is trustworthy and very easy to get on with and his understanding of the pressures and issues facing SME’s today allows with him to connect with his clients in a very positive way. I would strongly recommend him and his firm Bird Luckin to any organisation.”
“Ian is more than just an accountant, he is a problem-solver”
“Ian has assisted Strategic Network Consulting for many years. His professional knowledge is excellent, and without doubt is one of the most helpful and enjoyable people to have working alongside your business. He is a man of the utmost integrity, and builds excellent relationships with everyone with which he works.”
“I have worked with ian and his team now for nearly a year , and in that short space of time what a difference it has made to our business and us as directors ian gives you your passion back in your company , and is so enthusiastic to help your company grow , and wants to help you to strive to new heights i am so exited to see where ian can take us in the future if what he has already achieved for us in such a short time.”
“I have worked with Ian as financial intermediary and client since 2000 and see him as one of the County’s business leaders having established his firm as a key regional accounancy firm in Essex. Where I believe he excels is the advice and counsel he provides his clients with when it comes to growing their business or protecting what they have. His intelect is strong but this is coupled with his creative insight and his ability to build a high degree of trust and understanding with people from all walks of life. I like, trust and respect Ian a great deal and he is very good at what he does.”
“I’ve known Ian since the early 1990’s and we have forged an excellent professional relationship, to the mutual benefit of our clients and our respective teams. We also count one another as good friends. Ian has to be the most visible Accountant / Managing Partner of any firm in Essex, and is hugely respected by everyone he deals with, due to his commitment, energy, and reliabilty. I can recommend him without hesitation.”
Rickard Luckin are warm-blooded. They are the first accountants I have come across who I would describe as warm blooded, rather than reptilian.
One of the important facts is that they are accountants who actually listen to you and evaluate the information they are given, before they start giving you advice or directions; in other cases we have had to listen to the accountants first.
With Rickard Luckin, we have dealt with one person, which has been ideal for The County Hotel. Sarah knows how our business works, and it’s important that we are working with someone we can talk to.
We have been able to build up a partnership with Rickard Luckin and I think we must be one of the oldest clients that Rickard Luckin has. It works well, for both us and Rickard Luckin, although sometimes for me as a manager it can be difficult as we are part of a group.
But trust is also an important part of the relationship, and there needs to be trust when you are working with an accountant. That trust has built up because we work so closely with Sarah, or with Ian Plunkett, and they know our business and the complexities we face.
Rickard Luckin have also taken on much of the traditional bank managers’ role. They are much more approachable than a bank manager, but they are able to offer the same sort of advice and services as a bank would do.
