Peter Leonard

Peter Leonard is a Director in our Audit and Accounts Team. He is primarily based in our Basildon office, but works with a range of clients across Essex and further afield. He supports growing SMEs in all areas of business planning and finance.

Having worked in every department of the firm during his training, Peter has a wide breadth of business knowledge and experience across all areas of accounting and tax. This allows him to offer holistic advice to business owners, including:

• Owner remuneration strategies, maximising the desired drawings from the business that an owner, or owners, can remove tax efficiently whilst planning for their futures.
• Business structures, particularly the use of groups and related companies, to enable business to expand in to new areas whilst safeguarding existing companies and assets.
• Gaining detailed knowledge of the business’ finances through accurate Management Accounts that highlight the key information specific to the business.
• Analysing the business’ position and creating strategies and business plans to help grow the business.

Peter works best with growing businesses that need the experience and knowledge of a financial director, until they are at the stage of appointing someone to that role full-time.

From explaining the year-end accounts, through to preparing monthly or quarterly management accounts, to pre year-end tax planning, Peter helps his clients to navigate through the financial planning and regulations of running a business efficiently and effectively.

Peter takes pride in working with his clients closely to make sure that they are confident that every area of the business is considered and covered. One of his clients described him as ‘effortlessly efficient, delivering on time, every time…’ and commented that they ‘regularly recommend him to my clients and friends, as whatever ‘it’ is, he gets it done.’

Peter is a fellow of ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales). He joined Rickard Luckin in 2001 as part of the firm’s A-level training programme and completed his qualifications here. Having worked his way through the firm, Peter joined the Board in 2013.

Spending so much time with clients in detailed planning meetings, outside of work Peter likes to spend a lot of his ‘spare’ time outside, particularly walking. Peter is also a big car enthusiast.
