Throughout 2021 and especially in the run up to New Year, HMRC sent out a number of messages about changes to various commodity codes which were to take effect from 1 January 2022.

Due to the nature of the notifications it’s impractical to set out which have been changed. Therefore, the best way to see if the 2021 commodity codes can be used in 2022 is to input the 2021 codes into the search box at:  https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/find_commodity  and see if the code exists anymore and relates to the relevant goods.

HMRC have said that CHIEF (Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight) has been updated.
